I am a fully qualified British Sign Language/English Interpreter (RSLI) with over twenty years experience. I am registered with the NRCPD (National Register of Communication Professionals Working With Deaf and Deafblind people). I hold a current DBS certificate and am insured by Towergate Insurance, a copy of this can be seen on request. In addition to this, I also provide proofreading services and have completed training with the Society for Editors and Proofreaders (SfEP). To find out more about the areas I work in, please go to the 'My Skills' page.
I am the founder of the National Union of British Sign Language Interpreters (NUBSLI), which was established in May 2014 to protect our terms, conditions and levels of pay and to ensure that BSL/English interpreting remains a viable profession for many years to come. For the first four years of the Union, I held the post of Branch Secretary. I am also co-founder of Signalise Co-op, a multi-stakeholder co-operative owned and operated by its members - communication professionals and Deaf people. Established in 2019, I was Business and Development Manager (as a job share to enable me to continue to work as an interpreter) and on the Board of Directors until September 2022.
In 2014, I co-founded Stop Changes To Access To Work with deaf campaigner Geraldine O'Halloran. I am passionate about Deaf BSL users right to full access to employment. In 2022, I was the events organiser for the British Deaf Association's BSL Act rally in Trafalgar Square. I was responsible for event logistics and ensuring the safety of everyone in attendance.
